The dates to put on the family calendar

Huntley Community School District 158 starts grades 1–12 on August 19, 2026, but kindergarten and Early Childhood begin on different days. Thanksgiving week has no student classes, and the planned May 27 finish depends on emergency days. Families with children in more than one program need to check which schedule applies before treating a date as a shared day off.

Opening week has three different starts

Grades 1–12 begin Wednesday, August 19. Kindergarten follows Thursday, August 20, and Early Childhood starts Friday, August 21. A household with a child in grades 1–12 and an ECC child therefore has two days when the older child is in school before the ECC year begins.

Use the student’s own grade or program for opening-week arrangements. August 19 is the district’s earliest student start, not the first attendance day for every child.

SIP days need a school-specific pickup plan

The six scheduled K–12 SIP early-release dates are September 22, October 23 and December 18, 2026; February 11 and March 2, 2027; and the tentative May 27 closing day. The final date may change if emergency days extend the year.

There are three dismissal times. Martin Elementary is listed separately from the other elementary schools, so a single districtwide pickup reminder would be misleading.

ECC days off do not follow the K–12 SIP pattern

For ECC, a Parent Education Day means no regular student classes, rather than a shorter K–12 day. These dates are September 22, October 23 and December 18, 2026; February 11 and April 22, 2027; and the tentative May 27 closing date.

ECC also has no classes for parent-teacher conferences on March 1–2. March 2 is a K–12 SIP day, but April 22 is an ECC Parent Education Day without being a K–12 SIP date. April 23 is a separate districtwide institute day with no student classes. The year-end ECC arrangement needs confirmation if emergency days change the closing schedule.

Thanksgiving is a full week off; winter return is January 5

Students have no classes November 23–27. The calendar gives three reasons: conferences on November 23–24, a floating holiday November 25, and Thanksgiving holidays November 26–27. Students return Monday, November 30. For weekday care, the whole week matters, even though the named Thanksgiving holiday is only Thursday and Friday.

Winter time off begins December 21. January 4 is an institute day without student classes, so the return is Tuesday, January 5, 2027. Planning for a Monday return would miss that additional no-class day.

Spring plans should include March 26

Spring break is March 29–April 2, 2027. Friday, March 26, is a separate non-attendance day immediately before it. Including the weekends, students are away from classes March 26–April 4 and return Monday, April 5.

For childcare, that adds one weekday before the named break. For a trip, the published student-off window is longer than the five-day spring-break label; it does not change which dates the district calls Spring Break.

A holiday name does not always mean no school

Veterans Day, November 11, 2026, is a school day on this calendar. K–12 students also attend on Casimir Pulaski Day, March 1, 2027. ECC students are off that day because their conferences run March 1–2.

A different February arrangement combines SIP early dismissal on Thursday, February 11, a non-attendance day February 12 and Presidents Day February 15. Friday and Monday have no classes, with the weekend between them. Thursday still requires an early-pickup plan.

May 27 and June 4 are two different closing scenarios

The planned last day is Thursday, May 27, 2027, if no emergency days are used. It is scheduled for K–12 SIP early dismissal, with no regular ECC classes. If all five emergency days are used, the last day becomes Friday, June 4. May 28 and June 1–4 are the possible make-up dates; Memorial Day on May 31 remains a holiday.

Neither date should be treated as an unconditional finish. Check the district’s final announcement before committing to a camp or travel that could overlap the reserved dates. The annual calendar does not specify a June 4 dismissal time for the all-five-days scenario.

Huntley High School graduation is listed for May 22. Marlowe’s eighth-grade promotion is May 26, followed by Heineman’s on May 27. These ceremony dates do not establish that other students have finished classes. Check the individual school for times and arrival details.
