About J. Sterling Morton High School District 201

Grades 9 and 10 start school on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, with a half day ending at noon. The district calendar does not specify the first attendance date for grades 11 and 12, so juniors and seniors should check their school's back-to-school announcements. Families can also attend open houses at Morton East and Morton West on August 19, or at Morton Freshman Center and Morton Alternative School on August 20.

Morton District 201 has different bell schedules for regular school days, early releases and half days. Regular classes end at 2:55 p.m., while the 27 scheduled early-release dates have 2:15 p.m. dismissal. Students are dismissed at noon on August 12 (grades 9 and 10 only), September 30 and May 24. Period 0 and Extra Help times also vary by schedule. Not every Wednesday is an early-release day.

Students do not attend classes on October 8 for parent-teacher conferences, October 9 for a non-attendance day, or October 12 for Columbus Day. With the weekend between them, that means five consecutive calendar days without classes. Thanksgiving Holiday runs November 25-27, with November 23 and 24 outside the published break.
