About Waukegan Community Unit School District 60

Waukegan District 60 students begin classes August 17, 2026. Fall parent-teacher conferences take place October 21 and 22, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., according to the district's October 20 reminder. Students have no classes Friday, October 23. Thanksgiving recess runs November 25-27, so Monday and Tuesday of Thanksgiving week remain regular school days.

Winter break is December 21, 2026, through January 1, 2027. Students are also off January 4 for a records day and return January 5. February 12 is an institute day, followed by Presidents Day on February 15, giving students a four-day weekend. Spring break runs March 22-26, with classes resuming March 29. Another institute day on April 12 means no classes for students.

Professional learning days do not follow one districtwide bell schedule. Eight elementary schools, including Carman-Buckner, Cooke Magnet and Lyon Magnet, have 15 listed early-dismissal dates, with classes ending at 1:03 p.m. A separate group of seven elementary schools, including Clark, Little Fort and Washington, has 15 late-start dates, with classes beginning at 11:15 a.m. Families should follow their school's specific dates rather than assuming every Wednesday has a modified schedule.
